Lara Wilson is a choreographer, writer, designer, and dance filmmaker. Originally from the suburbs of Detroit, Lara graduated summa cum laude from the Ailey/Fordham BFA Program in NYC in 2009. She also studied at the Taylor School and attended workshops given by Helen Pickett and others, exploring the improvisation modalities of William Forsythe. Her choreography was presented in 2010 on the Jacob’s Pillow Inside/Out Stage, giving way to additional opportunities in the greater NYC area, including presentations at APAP, the Young Choreographer’s Festival, Dance New Amsterdam, Gibney Dance Center, the Soho Digital Art Gallery, Galapagos Art Space, and more.
Since landing in OC, Lara has presented dances at Highways Performance Space; One Laguna with the Laguna Dance Festival; in a site-specific, self-produced evening of work in a backyard casita; and through the company she co-directs, The Assembly. Her dance films have been screened nationwide, most recently at the San Francisco Dance Film Festival in 2014. Lara was a resident artist at Mana Contemporary in Jersey City, NJ in Jan. 2014, and at Yale University in Oct. 2015.
